There are some general precautions that we have to be taken into account when you have a cast on but today I will be specific and just talk about what you will need to avoid or shouldn’t do when you have an arm cast on.
These warnings will be about the movement you are allowed to use with the arm and what you should use the arm for when you have a cast on.
Movement of the arm
Limit the movement of your joints
Your shoulder or elbow joint should not be moved until you are told by your doctor to do so.
Obviously, your cast is placed to protect the broken bones and prevent some motion therefore, this is not the time to practice joint range of motion exercises of the joints on the affected limb.
It is a time for immobilizing that arm and allowing the fracture to heal.
You are allowed to wiggle your fingers.
Crazy activity should be halted
Just like we mentioned above, this time is one for you to recover. So no running or jumping. Running can put you at risk of falling and injuring yourself again.
Arm use
Carrying stuff
Refrain from using that hand to carry things. No carrying cups or bags till the fracture is healed.
In conclusion, some discipline needs to be exercised when you have a cast on. Watch the activities you do with your arm and limit your motion of the arm until advised by your doctor.
